Response to UN SDGs

Response to UN SDGs

STEP 1 Assess method

GRI, UN Global Compact and WBCSD have jointly created a SDG Compass in an attempt to rally efforts from the corporate world towards United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). YOKE has adopted the spirit and practices stated in the SDG Compass and followed the 5 main steps from “Understanding the SDGs,” “Defining priorities,” “Setting goals,” “Integrating” to “Reporting and communicating” to incorporate SDGs into the Company’s operational goals. By following the above guidelines, YOKE hopes to adjust its practices and contribute towards sustainability over the long term.

STEP 2 Confirmation of goals

From a series of sustainability issues analysis, YOKE has identified issues that it considers to be material, and conducted a full-scale review to associate SDGs with YOKE’s value chain. Through internal communication and discussion, YOKE has identified SDG 3 (Good Health and Well-being),
SDG 4 (Quality Education), SDG 5 (Gender Equality), SDG 7 (Affordable and Clean Energy), SDG 8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth), SDG 9 (Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure), SDG 12 (Responsible Consumption and Production), SDG 16 (Peace and Justice Strong Institutions) the primary aspects for its sustainability efforts.

STEP 3 Practices

While promoting sustainable practices, YOKE came to realize the implications of this issue and how it concerns stakeholders. This realization is also gradually reflected in the performance indicators of internal departments through trial and learning; ultimately, we hope to fully incorporate sustainable values into our corporate culture and business operations. By prioritizing SDGs, YOKE aims to associate the corporate value chain with stakeholders’ concerns and introduce feasible solutions to fulfill SDGs through action.

  • Good Health and Well-being

We have initiated our ISO 17025 certification for our laboratory in 2018 and we are scheduled to complete our certification in mid-2019.
We planned the introduction of ISO 45001 occupational safety and health management system and separated our work premises into 34 safety zones so that we can assign designated personnel to routinely inspect relevant safety implementations. Results of safety inspection are to be reviewed and followed-up for improvement on a monthly basis.
For 6 consecutive years, we have encouraged our employees to perform volunteer services at Taichung Veterans General Hospital to help the patients within their capacity. Thus far, more than 1000 employees have volunteered.
  • Quality Education

In 2018, our budget for employee training increased substantially by 132.17%, with actual training duration reaching 12,401hours. For this improvement, YOKE received the Gold Medal for Talent Quality Development System (TTQS).
We introduced a standardized inspection procedure for incoming inspection and supplier outgoing inspection and organized training to help suppliers’ QA personnel to boost their competence in order to improve the consistency in their outgoing inspection.
YOKE offers an NTD 600,000 scholarship each year for students at 5 departments across 4 universities including NCKU that have been working closely with the Company in relevant product technologies as our way to encourage and assist students of outstanding academic performance to pursue further education.
  • Gender Equality

Excluding direct personnel, the Company has hired more female employees (60%) than male employees, and their average duration of training is also longer than their male colleagues by 3.48%.
  • Affordable and Clean Energy

We keep working on energy conservation and carbon reduction; with the 9 projects we launched in 2018, YOKE reduced the power consumption of approximately 200,000 kWh per year.
  • Decent Work and Economic Growth

Continual growth in revenue, with 20.36% growth in revenue for 2018.
Due to factors such as growth in revenues, increased production capacities and establishment of Factory 2, our employees grew by 6.82% in number.
In our implementation of local procurement, the amount of our domestic procurement in 2018 was up to 98.92% of our total budget. Compared to 2009, our amount of procurement grew 3.94 times and our efforts have led to the upgrade in relevant sectors and growth in respective employments.
  • Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure

YOKE became the first company of developing the technology to access RFID chips through NFC functionalities with smartphones to help customers manage and perform relevant inspections for their safety hooks.
YOKE successfully completed the completion of grade 120 high-strength alloy steel material development, with relevant manufacturing parameters and quality inspection related technologies to boost the durability of our products.
We have been working with NTU, Feng Chia University and National Chinyi University in academia-sector collaborations in an effort to accelerate our technological development by leveraging the R&D capabilities of the academia.
  • Responsible Consumption and Production

Through a high-specification quality management system and factory manufacturing verification, our 8 series products have been submitted for relevant verifications. The revenue from the 8 series products has already accounted for 91.62% of the entire 8 series.
YOKE continued to invest in human resources for improving the operational process. In 2018, the Company completed 9 cross-functional projects of continuous improvements, 14 process improvement projects, and 5 energy-saving projects.
